Always Coca Cola

Ah I loved this ad. When I was a kid they brought us to the Coca Cola factory and I sang this and one lots of Coke. Actually we went there with the school a few times. Loved it. Although I prefer Pepsi.

All Ireland Talent Show Backstage

Me little guide to the All Ireland Talent Show process continues today! Read on!

Well this bit was actually shown AFTER the main performance but we filmed it before. The entire weekend was a bit mad to be honest and by the time we actually had to perform, we were exhausted.

The whole thing started on Friday mornin when we got to Dublin. We had a meetin with the producers and then a choreographer to fine tune anythin they thought wouldn’t work. We’d planned to have Eric singin to a big screen of Blaithnaid behind us but they changed that on us and in the show itself, it just looked silly coz ya couldn’t tell what was goin on. Bein honest, I think they tried to change so much of it and water it down so much that I was just goin along with what they told me to do. I knew we wouldn’t have a chance coz they didn’t understand the act so we just decided to have fun.

That evenin, we went back to the hotel in Bray and had dinner. Meself and Eddie went to an arcade for a bit (when in Bray) while the others stayed in the hotel. We got back and Leonardo (the contestant from Belfast) came and hung out with us for a while.

The followin mornin we were up at 9 to start rehearsals and costume fittins etc. They brought me in first to show me the costume and I actually felt like cryin. It was awful. Pink spandex. I actually hated it and knew at that stage I couldn’t do my own thing. They’d created what they’d wanted me to be, I signed a contract and had no choice. I regret that decision to be honest.

Anyway, we got all our run-throughs done and headed off to have our “free time” as they were callin it. I went shoppin with the lads and then to the cinema to see Avatar with Leonardo.

The followin mornin we were up again early and straight back to the studio for rehearsal. We spent the mornin goin through our stuff over and over again. We met all the judges and then we got brought out to do the backstage thing with Dustin and Aidan Power which was great fun. The video of that is below. The live show came next but I’ll leave that for tomorrow!

Today’s song is Young Hearts Run Free by Candi Staton

"Young Hearts Run Free" is a disco song by Candi Staton. I’ve been known to perform it on occasion on me shows when I feel a bit of the seventies. It’s a great upliftin song and it’s great to sing along to! So turn it on and do it!

Punch on Jeremy Kyle

This is an American episode of Jeremy Kyle and seems to be just as trashy as the British version. Where do they find these people? Like I actually want someone to answer that for me. Who would go on one of these programmes? Notice the look of poor disgust on Jeremy’s face as he leads the youngfella off! LOL

Roll the VT

So we now get to the Live Show itself after talkin about how I got here the last few days. These are the VT shots we did for the show and they were filmed in January, about a week before the show. We wanted to film in Waterford but the producers said no as we were representin Dublin and then we wanted to film in Funderland but it was closed by that stage.

Poor Darren was very hungover the day we did the shoot. For the little bits you see, this actually took us a whole day to do with us on location on Henry Street, Moore Street, the Ha’Penny Bridge, the O2 and then a dance studio for the interior shots. Was all a bit manic to be honest and we were wrecked from it all! Not to mention how cold we were with it bein January and all. Overall, I’m really happy with how it turned out and I think these are by far the best clips we have of the show.

By the way, the person in the 2nd clip is Leonardo Lopez Monreal who represented the North. He was a lovely chap and we got on like a house on fire. We still keep in touch.

Today’s song is If I Can’t Have You by Yvonne Elliman

"If I Can't Have You" is another seventies disco classic that makes me want to put on me platforms, find a light up dancefloor and do the splits while I dance around. Yvonne Elliman has had a few songs like this but this is by far the best.

Jeremy Kyle skull tattoo

This is mental! Who’d do this to their face. I love the people that go on Jeremy Kyle. This chap’s name is Mad Dog Dion and he got a skull tattooed on his face! Clearly he’s a bit nuts. He’ll never get a job in Tesco now!

All Ireland Talent Show preparations

So the last few days I talked about how I got to the live shows of the All Ireland Talent Show and now I’ll tell yiz about the preparation that went into it. Of course, lookin back on it I would have done so much more.

We did lots of promo here in Waterford as well as in Cork, Galway, Kilkenny and Limerick all of which were places I’d done some work in. We tried to use the internet as much as possible and came up with the idea for The Road To Bray which I’ll be goin into in a few weeks but you can check it out on me YouTube now.

I did radio interviews with KCLR in Kilkenny and we got support from 98fm in Dublin amongst others. Below is the preview from the Rick O’Shea show on 2FM along with all the Dublin contestants chosen to be on Shane Lynch’s team.

Today’s song is A Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin

"(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" is a great song. It’s one of the best soul songs EVER and Aretha knows how to knock out a tune. I LOVE her doin this type of stuff. I enjoy her immensely.

I love Trollied

In case ya haven’t seen Trollied yet on Sky 1, ya have to check it out. It’s by far me favourite programme on TV at the moment. This is from season 1 and is the type of humour ya can expect! It’s on Sky 1 every Friday at 9pm so make sure ya don’t miss it and let me know if you’re a Trollied fan and who’s your favourite staff member.

Makin it to the Live Shows

So followin on from the audition yesterday, this is what happened next. Oh the excitement. LOL!

Well after the audition, we were a bit down but still had to go to Kilkenny and do a show seein as it was Halloween night. By the end of it, we were exhausted and after headin back to Waterford, we realised we’d get an hour or so sleep. Then it started to rain. It rained and rained and rained. In the end, The Lads thought Shane and the judges would prefer to see me alone without them and only Giles came back to Dublin with me. When we got there, they decided to whittle what was left of the contestants down to 16. When I went to see Shane to find out if I’d be one of those 16, he said he was disappointed the lads weren’t with me. I went outside knowin' they were still 2 hours away in Waterford and frantic discussions started with me, Giles and the producers. We called the lads but they weren’t too pushed on comin to Dublin so Grainne Seoige, the host of the show, decided to take the phone and call Eric. He said he’d get the others and drive up.

In the meantime, the producers agreed to let us go last to wait for them but if they weren’t there by 3, we’d be out. We’d a nervous wait as the time was approachin and at 3 o’clock on the button, we got a text to say they were just arrivin. Grainne and 3 camera crews came with us out to the front door to wait for them. Eric arrived like Michael Schumacher and they started runnin in. It was all very dramatic. We ran up the stairs and into the audition room just in time. I don’t know if it was because of the adrenalin or what but we really nailed it.

Turns out that they ended up showin none of it and some fat headed dope complained that we were gettin all the camera time and we did the whole thing just to get attention! Jesus I wish it was. I had a stressed head on me all mornin.

We were all lined up to learn our fate like I had been when I made the final 10 the year before but this time I was near the middle of the line. Just before we went in to find out (which is what’s in the video below) Edele Lynch came out to go the toilet and had to pass us. She stopped for a second to tell us she really liked us and that she was rootin for us which was nice.

Clearly, after this, we’d to keep it quiet until it was aired on TV 2 months later! Then came the live show…

Today’s song is Graduation (Friends Forever) by Vitamin C

"Graduation (Friends Forever)" is a song by Vitamin C that gets used in graduation ceremonies throughout the world. It’s lovely and nice to have a listen to when you’re thinkin of some old friends. Actually this is nothin like my old mates. Some of them are in jail.

Rihanna’s new song Diamonds!

I love this! Rihanna’s new song Diamonds is out soon and here it is! It’s the first track off her new album and it’s written by SIA who I think ya can hear a little bit in it? Or is that just me? Is it only me or is the beat the same as Rock The Boat? This is gonna be a smash. I can feel it.

One Directions Liam Payne splits with girlfriend

This will be great news to those of us who’d be fans of Liam Payne. I’ll take over if he’s interested. Word on the street is that he’s split up with his dancer girlfriend Danielle Peazer. Mark Jefferies from the Daily Mirror tweeted: “Just had it confirmed One Direction’s @Real_Liam_Payne and @DaniellePeazer have split.” then “Split to do with them struggling to find time together more than anything and NOT twitter trolls, according to friend.”

Clearly One Direction are real busy at the moment with their new track Live While We’re Young out soon and their album Take Me Home just after. The song is the fastest sellin pre-order single ever. One Direction will be tourin the UK and Ireland in January and February! Poor Liam!

Will Patrick Stewart return to X-Men?

I’m a big fan of the X-Men movies and delighted that the 6th one, The Wolverine is bein made at the moment in Japan! The next one, the sequel to X-Men First Class will start shootin in January and will be called X-Men Days Of Future Past. The word on the street is that it’s a way to bring together the first 3 X-Men movies with this new prequel series so the original cast will be playin the characters in the modern age, maybe after what happened in X-Men The Last Stand and the newer cast will be playin them in the past after the events of X-Men First Class! Sounds epic. This is what Patrick Stewart said about it at the Montreal Comic Convention -

"I think there is every possibility"  then he said "Halle Berry! Famke Janssen! Rebecca Stamos! Anna Paquin!" and then, "yes, I'll be reprising..."

Can’t wait to see more news on this!

patrick stewart x-men return

Invisible rope prank

This is hilarious. I’m goin to try this on the main road one day!

Me All Ireland Talent Show 2010

Yesterday and the day before I talked about the first season of the All Ireland Talent Show and how I was the last person eliminated in the Dublin auditions. Clearly I was a bit disappointed and so when they announced that there’d be a second series, I wasn’t sure what to think. Eventually I decided to try prove to meself that I could do it and went back.

They changed things around this time and the auditions with the producers were 6 weeks before the judges auditions. I went on me own feelin confident that they’d put me through to see Shane. At the time I’d just moved to Waterford so had driven all the way to Dublin that mornin. For some reason, I wasn’t happy with the audition I did for the producer but was still expectin to get through. I was in a big room with everyone else after it and they started callin out the acts that would be comin back to see the judges. They got to the end and I wasn’t one of the selected ones so I was a bit shocked but I had no intention of goin home. I went and found the series producer, told her that in 6 weeks I’d come back to see the judges bigger and better and with dancers. She decided to give me one more shot and so I was one of the 48 acts who’d be comin back.

When I got back to Waterford, I asked Darren, Giles, Eric, Eddie, Stephen and Danny to get involved in the act and they all went out of their way to be part of it. We worked really hard and booked a few days in Dublin for the audition but when Stephen Gately died (He was head judge Shane Lynch’s bandmate) they postponed the audition to 2 weeks later. Stephen and Danny couldn’t get time off so we were down to a 5 piece for the re-arranged audition.

I wasn’t happy at all with the audition in the video below. Evelyn seemed a bit reluctant although Edele Lynch seemed to like us a lot. Shane seemed to be on the fence so as happy as I was that we got through, I was still disappointed and not very confident. As a result, things the next day got REALLY interestin but you’ll have to wait til tomorrow to read about that!

Today’s song is Sunny by Boney M

"Sunny" is a great song by Boney M, probably the best disco band of ALL time. I love them. I wish I was one of them. I wonder if they’re still around these days. I’d go and see them in the Olympia if they were playin.

So I’ve been moved to Blogger.ie

Which means all my links to JoannaRyde.Blogspot.com are gone! That’s annoyin! Gonna try work out a solution but in the meantime try see what this is about - 5GXZ33W732PK

Who wants a Flake?

Long before My Big Fat Gypsy Weddings and Thelma’s Gypsy Girls Cadbury were doin the whole gypsy thing. This ad is from way back in 1985 long before I was even born. The song was around on Flake ads for years although these days they never seem to have Flake ads. Ya wouldn’t even think of buyin one in your local Spar/SevenEleven/whatever your version of Londis is.

Nice caravan though.

Me All Ireland Talent Show result 2009

Followin on from yesterday’s post about me All Ireland Talent Show audition in 2008 (It was the 2009 show but the audition happened in November 2008!") this is the results.

After the first audition, the producers called everyone together to let them know only 10 would be going back in to see Shane Lynch to audition again. There was 30 acts left at this stage so 20 of us would be goin home straight away without even gettin another chance. After about an hours wait, Shane came out and called out the 10 names and I happened to be one of them. Now at this stage, I couldn’t believe I’d got to the last 10 of the 1000 or more that auditioned in Dublin. I was only goin to see what the story was coz Robert Lanigan, one of the researchers, thought I’d enjoy it so I was a bit shocked that I got so far.

The second audition went okay, although lookin back on it, I could have done better. They showed a bit of it on telly in a montage but I don’t have it on YouTube. Again, I was last in. We had to wait then for 2 hours while they made their decisions and we were lined up about 7 o’clock in the evenin in a big queue. I was right at the back again and I started hearin from further up who’d been picked and who hadn’t. It suddenly dawned on me that seein as I was last, I’d know that if 5 acts had made it through, I’d be sent home and if only 4 made it through, I’d be the 5th on in the live shows. It was only when the 8th act had learned their fate that I realised I was goin in with the act in front of me.

I can’t even remember what I felt when I didn’t make it however I know that after it aired on TV I found it hard to watch this video. It was hard gettin so close only to be the last person eliminated. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger though and so a year later, I returned with a point to prove! More on that tomorrow!

Today’s song is Girl You Know It’s True by Milli Vanilli

"Girl You Know It's True" was covered by Milli Vanilli and released as their first single back in the eighties! They were a big hit and then someone found out they didn’t sing on their record and they had all their awards taken away from them. Hate that. Its a fun song though.

Beats By Deirdre

Just spotted this on Facebook! Made me LOL!

WorldAbandoned.com

Back a while ago I started postin pictures and videos of random abandoned places. Well there’s a great blog that yiz all need to follow by a lovely chap I know real well called WorldAbandoned.com. He talks about places all over the world and it’s real interestin. It’s on the Twitter as well – @WorldAbandoned and on the YouTube too – www.YouTube.com/worldabandoned

God bless!

So fresh it’s famous

I know a lot of people who read the blog aren’t from Ireland so I thought I’d share this gem with ya. Everyone in Ireland will know of it. It was a TV ad that lasted from the 80’s right up until 2002. The song was used on the radio ads too and to this day can still be heard. The song is still used too in new versions of the ad. Would love to hear what people not from Ireland think! Oh in case you didn’t know, Pat The Baker is a brand of bread!!

My first All Ireland Talent Show audition

Back in 2008 I first auditioned for the All Ireland Talent Show. I wasn’t really sure what it was about and I had just come back from 11 days of travellin through Europe on trains so was a bit wrecked. Robert Lanigan was workin on the show and thought it’d be a good fit for me so I trusted him. He was the one that had me on Podge & Rodge twice the year before.

I was the last person in the queue on the first day and had Gavin & Jay (June Taaffe’s Youngfella) with me. Gavin had danced with me when I won Alternative Miss Ireland and Jay came to Amsterdam with me and Charmin and ya can see him in that episode of gaffs here.

We made it through the producer’s audition and had to wait to see the judges. By the end of the day, there was still a few acts left that hadn’t seen the judges and so they asked us to come back the followin day. The next mornin (It was a Sunday) Gavin was sick and I wasn’t goin to go back. With 20 minutes to go, I made the decision to take a chance and so I drove in alone, makin it just in time. Lookin back on it, I’m glad I changed me mind that mornin!!

I eventually got to see Shane Lynch and the other judges (I was last again) and this is what happened in the first televised audition. I have trouble with lyrics so this is one of the only videos I have where I’m actually singin live!

Find out what happened next tomorrow!

Today’s song is Proud Mary by Tina Turner

"Proud Mary" is a song by Tina Turner and is the famous last song played on Saturday nights in Dignity when everyone gets up and dances. This is one of Tina’s biggest songs and is a favourite of middle aged women the world over. Get up and dance now! I SAID NOW!

Check out me latest parody

That’s the title I had to use because check out my parody of Taylor Swift’s We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together was too long to fit. In case ya might notice, this one ties in to the one of Call Me Maybe I did. Check it out and tell me what ya think! Spread it around etc!

Today’s song is Livin On A Prayer by Bon Jovi

"Livin' on a Prayer" is a Bon Jovi song that I actually can’t stand it. They play it on nights out when everyone is pissed and goin around fallin out the door and then headin into Abrakebabra to abuse the people workin there. I dislike it so if you’re playin it, don’t play it too loud.

Today’s song is Let Me Be The One by Six

Six won the Irish Popstars in 2003 or something like that and brought out the song There’s A Whole Lot Of Loving. This was their second song and was another big hit. It wasn’t long after that they split up which is a pity coz I liked them. I’d love a reunion of some form.

Back with a bang!

Well I’m workin on a full return to the blog so just gettin meself in order! Just a few things – Song Of The Day will now feature a little bit about the song from Wikipedia and the lyrics coz people said it might be a good idea. See I listen to yiz. Ryde Of The Day will start again on Monday. I’ll also be bringin ya at least one funny video or photo every day too so send me anything ya think might give people the few lols! I’ll of course be givin yiz all the updates on me new book, what gigs I’m doin and I’ll be givin yiz me opinion on all the celeb gossip. Oh ya might notice that the name of the blog has changed to The World Of A Ryde. The reason is coz Google didn’t like me usin the word s€x in the title so I had to remove it. I liked that name too! Anyway, giz a shout. Let me know yiz are still listenin!

God bless

Today’s song is Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus

"Teenage Dirtbag" is such a great song! I love the video, I love the song. It makes me smile and cheers me up. It reminds me of American teen movies that make me laugh. Actually everyone go away for a bit and let me listen to it in peace. God/Allah bless

Today’s song is Up Where We Belong by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes

Up Where We Belong is some tune! I think Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes were the ones behind Time Of My Life from Dirty Dancing. Is that true or did I make that up. I would check on Wikipedia but I couldn’t be arsed. I like this one. It’s a lovely song.

Wednesday, 19 September 2012

Today’s song is The Way You Love Me by Faith Hill

"The Way You Love Me" is a song by Faith Hill and I love it so much. Faith Hill had loads of tunes but this is by far the best in my opinion. There’s a remix of it that did very well too. I’ve always liked Faith Hill actually! Great tune!!

Today’s song is What’s Your Sign by Des’Ree

What's Your Sign? is a song by Des’ree about signs of the Zodiac. I like Des’Ree. She needs to bring out new songs. She hasn’t had a new one in a while. Do ya remember Gotta Be? That was great as well. I like this video too. Hello Des’ree.

Monday, 17 September 2012

Today’s song is Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell

"Big Yellow Taxi" is a song originally by Joni Mitchell but was also covered by that girl with the piano and some hairy fellas. Is this song really about a big yellow taxi? Coz that’d be a bit odd. We don’t have yellow taxis in Ireland.

Sunday, 16 September 2012

Today’s song is Mustang Sally by The Commitments

The Commitments brought out this song back when the movie was out in 1993. Roddy Doyle wrote the book and then they made it into a movie that was a big hit all over the world. People saw Ireland in a new light. Workin class people never looked so cool. I’d never have a career if it wasn’t for Roddy Doyle.

Saturday, 15 September 2012

Today’s song is One Moment In Time by Whitney Houston

"One Moment in Time" is one of Whitney’s best songs in my opinion. Ah poor Whitney. You’d miss her. I think this one is from the Olympics back in 1998. I still struggle to listen to this since she died without a tear comin to me eye. She left us with some classics. God bless ya Whitney.

Friday, 14 September 2012

Today’s song is I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing by The New Seekers

"I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (in Perfect Harmony)" or the Coke song as people would probably know it. It was used in a Coca Cola ad YEARS ago and then last year it came back and was a big hit all over again what with the digital age and all that shite. I love it, always have. I’d love to be able to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony.

Thursday, 13 September 2012

Today’s song is Conga by Gloria Estefan

Ah Gloria Estefan is great fun. Conga is one of her biggest hits. Actually Gloria had a band called The Miami Sound System. I always thought that was just a machine she used. I want to get me maraccas out to dance around to this.

Wednesday, 12 September 2012

Today’s song is Land Of Make Believe by Bucks Fizz

"The Land of Make Believe" is a song by Bucks Fizz but turns out they were makin a political statement about Margaret Thatcher or something like that. I would Wikipedia it to see what’s goin on there but I couldn’t be bothered. It’s a bit of a spaced out tune. Don’t listen to it when drunk.

Tuesday, 11 September 2012

Today’s song is Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant

"Electric Avenue" is actually not a place in Dublin. I don’t think it is anyway. Who’s Eddy Grant? Didn’t he write that Gimme Hope Joanna song? I never gave anyone hope. What’s he on. This is a mad song.

Today’s song is We Don’t Need Another Hero by Tina Turner

We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) is a song by Tina Turner from Mad Max. What a great movie. If you haven’t seen it yet, ya have to see it! What a great movie. Tina Turner is great in it. She scares me to bits. I heard they’re makin a Mad Max 4. Did I actually hear that or did I dream it?

Sunday, 9 September 2012

Today’s song is Naked by Louise

"Naked" is a great song by the lovely Louise! I love her to bits! I wish she had more songs out. She didn’t do very much did she? She used to be in Eternal and then she went off and got married to Jamie Redknapp. She’ll surprise us one day soon and bring out a new album!

Saturday, 8 September 2012

Today’s song is The Boy Is Mine by Brandy and Monica

"The Boy Is Mine" was a huge hit when Brandy & Monica back in the 90s. It was number 1 all over the place. Its about the 2 of them fightin over a boy who lets face it, isn’t the best lookin. Great song and still great to this day.

Friday, 7 September 2012

Today’s song is Boys Of Summer by Don Henley

"The Boys of Summer" is a Don Henley song originally but I know the DJ Sammy version better because it was TUNE when I was on holiday one year. Great tune and very summery. It makes me smile. I wanna go dance to it.

Thursday, 6 September 2012

Today’s song is I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston

"I Have Nothing" is another Whitney song that brings a tear to me eyes when I hear it. Poor Whitney. I love listenin to it and chillin out. Its from the Bodyguard. Oh I love that movie. I must go watch it. Although I never liked Kevin Costner.

Wednesday, 5 September 2012

Today’s song is Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a great tune, probably one of the best songs of all time. Nirvana were cut short in their prime in fairness. Although why they’re talkin about mosquitos and albinos and all sorts of madness don’t even ask. The Muppets did a great version.

Tuesday, 4 September 2012

Today’s song is Video Killed The Radio Star by The Buggles

"Video Killed the Radio Star" was the first ever song played on MTV. I actually love this song. The Buggles are British and I always thought they were American. The video is mad too. I’m off to go dance around me room to it.

Monday, 3 September 2012

Today’s song is Coco Jamboo by Mr President

"Coco Jamboo" is one of those europop songs that sticks in your head and then when ya hear it years later ya go “Ah do ya remember that” while ya dance around thinkin you’re only the second comin of ABBA. Where are Mr President now I wonder?

Sunday, 2 September 2012

Today’s song is Walk Like An Egyptian by The Bangles

"Walk Like an Egyptian" by the Bangles is the type of thing you see on Magic and Music TV stations like that. VH1 Classic, whatever happened to that. What ever happened to the Bangles. I wonder do they still do songs? Are they tourin? Not that I’d go see them. Just askin.

Saturday, 1 September 2012

Today’s song is Sex On The Beach by T-Spoon

"Sex on the Beach" is still doin the rounds years later. It’s still goin LONG since T-Spoon vanished back into Argos or whatever it was they were workin at before hand. This is a great holiday song which reminds me I’d really love a week in the Canaries.
