The Winds Of Change Bloweth

Yes I was watching Thor! How is everyone?? Been AGES since I was talking to ya! Well I’ve some news! There’s BIG changes coming in the World Of Joanna (TRADEMARK). I’ve been busy the last few months with Beat 102 103 becoming a radio star and so I haven’t had much chance to be in here doing the talking and all that but things will change soon. Now I don’t want to hear anything about how I haven’t been making time for you because you’ve still been able to catch up with my podcasts online and on iTunes and all these other places you can find me talking random crap to strangers! Have a listen. You’ll enjoy it.

The blog will be getting a complete overhaul (but it’s perfect already JoJo I hear ya say). The website, the YouTube and god knows what else will be transformed in the next few weeks and I’ll be bringing ya Joanna 2.0. Don’t worry though, I’ll still be hilarious. I am looking for a good colour scheme though, something to go along with a new more mature me. I’m also thinking about removing a lot of my older stuff coz I amn’t a fan of the bad language what with now working in breakfast radio. It’s not becoming of a lady. Imagine! Me a lady. Who’d have thought they’d every see the day. Oh it’s far from lady I was reared. I can see me ma now ringing me giving out! “You’ve lost the run of yourself” she’d say.

So anyways, if you have anything you’d like to see online, just let me know. Clearly naked pictures are out although feel free to send me some! I’m looking forward to the madness! Hope you are too XX

God Bless!

Eurovision 2013 - United Kingdom

I don’t care what ANYONE says, THIS IS BONNIE TYLER! The woman is a legend and brought us the hits Total Eclipse Of The Heart and Holding Out For A Hero and should be praised and loved for that fact. I like this song too. It’s called Believe In Me and it’s a bit of a country sound off it.

The UK get a bit of stick for sendin’ big acts to Eurovision that don’t really do well. Of course they have 5 wins with Sandie Shaw, Lulu, Brotherhood of Man, Bucks Fizz and Katrina & The Waves. Since the turn of the century they had a 3rd with Jessica Garlick, a 5th with Jade Ewan and very little else in the top ten! They’ve also finished last 3 times since then. One day very soon they’re gonna send the right act and win again!

Eurovision 2013 - Ukraine

If Disney were to write a song for the Eurovision, this would be it! The song is Gravity by Zlata Ognevich. It’s all very happy and nice with everyone smilin’ and lovin’ each other. I wonder how it’ll translate onto the stage. There’s a bit of an African sound behind it too and a good beat. This has been growin’ on me every time I hear it. Dyin’ to see it live.

Ukraine have been enterin’ since 2003 and won just the year after with Ruslana and Wild Dances which must have been lovely for them. They’ve never failed to get out of the semi final in all the years they’ve been enterin’ and this year will be no exception. They had some great second places as well with Dancing Lasha Tumbai and Shady Lady in 2007 and 2008.

I like Gravity!

Eurovision 2013 - Switzerland

Switzerland gave us probably one of the most famous winners in Eurovision history when a young Canadian girl called Celine Dion won for them in 1988. The first competition was held there in 1956 and they won it themselves with Refrain by Lys Assia. They’ve used high profile acts like Vanilla Ninja and DJ Bobo. DJ Bobo’s song Vampires Are Alive was actually favourite to win and failed to make it out of the semi final which was a big surprised and pissed off the Swiss. It was a start of a run of 4 years not making it out of the semis and there was talk of Switzerland pullin’ out which they didn’t do in the end.

This year the song is You And Me by Takasa. It’s another middle of the road song which there seems to be lots of this year. The guitars are really out in force and there’s loads of ballads too which makes ya wonder will songs like Germany, Denmark and Ireland be stand outs? HMMM

Eurovision 2013 - Sweden

Sweden take the Eurovision VERY seriously. Their selection process lasts for months and has heats and a huge final. They’ve won 5 times now with ABBA their first and then Herreys, Carola, Charlotte Nilsson and of course Loreen last year. They’re holdin’ the competition in Malmo this year. Of course Waterloo by ABBA was voted the best Eurovision song ever at the 50th anniversary. Sweden have qualified out of the semi final all but once.

This year the song is You by Robin Stjernberg and it has a nice little ring to it but it’s definitely not a winner. It might do well enough and most years the host country does well regardless so it could easily be a top 10 even though it probably doesn’t deserve to be. Average at best!

Eurovision 2013 - Spain

Ah Spain. They do have some AWFUL Eurovision songs. There’s always some Spanish girl willin’ to sing some form of strange ballad that people tend to just forget about or some weird Spanish fella singin’ crap. I don’t really know what they do be on half the time. This sounds like the bloody Corrs! If the Corrs were from Madrid they would sound like this. It’s a bit bland. Can’t see it doin’ well. The song is called Contigo Hasta El Final by EDSM.

Spain’s last top 5 finish came WAY back in 1995. They’ve had 2 wins and they were in a row in 1967 and 1968. They’ve had 3 nul points finishes. Strangely enough, there’s only been 3 times that a song has had to be performed a second time in the final due to an interruption and two of those times was with Spain. When Azúcar Moreno opened the contest in Zagreb in 1990 with the song Bandido the orchestra and playback started out of sync and the singers missed their cue and they just walked off the stage. In Oslo in 2010 Daniel Diges's performance of Algo Pequeñito was interrupted by some chap called Jimmy Jump and they went again at the very end!

Eurovision 2013 - Slovenia

I already can’t remember ever hearin’ this song so I think sayin’ that is as good a place to start as any. The song is called Straight Into Love by Hannah who it seems only needs the one name. She must be famous enough in Slovenia but then again I don’t know. Actually havin’ listened again it actually sounds like she’s Slovenia’s answer to Tulisa!

Slovenia haven’t ever done very well at the Eurovision Song Contest. Their best result is 2 7th places and they’ve only managed to get out of the semi finals twice since 2004. They just kinda turn up and make up the numbers although one day something strange is gonna happen and they’re actually gonna do well. I hope so. God loves a trier!

Eurovision 2013 - Serbia

Serbia are one of only 2 countries to win on their Eurovision debuts. Of course the first was Switzerland in 1956 at the first competition and Serbia was also part of Serbia & Montenegro before that and Yugoslavia even before that. They’ve only once failed to get out of the semi final and last year they came 3rd.

This year their song is called Ljubav Je Svuda by Moje 3 who are like Serbia’s answer to the Sugababes. I actually like it and it’ll defo make the final although I think they struggle by not singin’ in English. Not sure if it’s a top 10 finisher though.

Eurovision 2013 - San Marino

This is one of me favourites from this years competition and I really hope they do well! The song is called Crisalide and it’s by Valentina Moneta who is real live person from San Marino. It’s the smallest country in the competition by far so fair play to them. I love it and I really hope it does well. It could be a very strange dark horse for the win. I would love nothin’ better for San Marino to win the Eurovision Song Contest. It’d be EPIC. In case you didn’t know, she was the girl who had the song about Facebook last year.

San Marino have only been enterin’ since 2008, missed 2009 and have never qualified out of the semi final. Valentina Moneta has now represented them half the times they’ve been in the competition. If there’s any justice in the world this song should be a top 5 finisher. Think it could do really well with the jurys.

Eurovision 2013 - Russia

Russia are strange when it comes to Eurovision. They won with Believe & Dima Bilan and paid enough to do it with Timbaland’s team behind the song. They sent the grannies last year too and did well enough with them. Of course Russia have lots of neighbours who they’re very pally with which helps them over achieve in the competition. Since their entry into the competition in 1994 they’ve had a win, 3 second places and 2 thirds, one of which was with T.A.T.U who were big at the time. They’ve never failed to qualify from the semi final.

This year they’ll be represented by Dina Garipova with What If which sounds like the winners song from Russian X-Factor. I don’t think it’s in contention for a win and the bookies even have it very high but it’ll definitely make the final. Don’t think it’s as strong as Denmark or Germany and that lot.

Eurovision 2013 - Romania

I really don’t know what to say about this song. I liked it at first coz I thought this is a great duet but then I found out it’s not actually a duet. It’s a fella who sings like a girl. It disturbs me and ruins what could be a great song. It’s called It’s My Life by Cezar. It’s a pity coz if it was a girl singin’ it’d do SOOO much better. Could they not just find a girl? And he’s masculine lookin’ so it just makes it worse! I dunno if it’ll even make the final and Romania have never missed a final since the semis were introduced.

Romania have been enterin’ since 1994 and their best ever finish has been 2 third places. They were tipped to do well last year with Zaleilah by Mandinga but only finished 12th which I liked.

Saturday, 4 May 2013

Eurovision 2013 - Norway

Ah Norway. This is an interestin’ one coz the bookies have it very high but they’ve done that with Norway before only to be let down. I don’t think this is a winner. There’s something about it and her I don’t like. No flashy white cat suit can make it better. The song is I Feed You My Love by Margaret Berger. I can’t see it makin’ the top 3 but as I said, the bookies LOVE it.

Norway of course are one of the countries that have won twice in the last 20 years (along with Ireland and Sweden). They’ve had 3 wins with Bobbysocks, Secret Garden and Alexander Rybak. They’ve had a total of 11 last places and 4 nul points which is some record. Since the semi finals were introduced they haven’t made it twice. They should do this year though.

Friday, 3 May 2013

Eurovision 2013 - The Netherlands

This is one of my favourites and I think if the public get behind this, it’s goin’ to do really well! I think the jurys are gonna LOVE it and could easily be a winner. I’d prefer this to win than Denmark. The song is called Birds and it’s by Anouk who’s one of the most famous singers in all of the Netherlands. To me it sounds like something Adele would do if she wrote Skyfall for Mary Poppins instead of James Bond. Big fan of this. Hope it does well.

The Netherlands have been enterin’ since 1956 and have finished last 6 times. They’ve had the 4 wins of course in 1957, 1959, 1969 and 1975. They were the ones that brought us Ding A Dong by Teach In. Since that win though they’ve never been in the top 3 and the last time they qualified out of the semi final was in 2004. If Anouk doesn’t qualify this year it will be a HUGE surprise.

Thursday, 2 May 2013

Eurovision 2013 - Montenegro

Montenegro are one of the newest countries in the Eurovision since they only became independent in 2006. Before that they were in the competition as part of Serbia & Montenegro and Yugoslavia before that. They’ve never reached the final yet although they nearly did 2 years ago. They send very strange songs. Last chap was some chap who seemed like a drunk uncle at a wedding talkin’ about something strange.

This year they’ve sent Who See with the song Igranka. It kinda sounds like some mid-1990s dance song. I think if it was in English it’d do much better but it’s just a bit strange for the Eurovision. It’s actually pretty decent but not sure if it’s right for the competition.

Wednesday, 1 May 2013

Eurovision 2013 - Moldova

Moldova are one of those countries who entered the Eurovision in the last few years and haven’t really done much. Their best ever finish was 6th on their debut back in 2005 and since then have only managed one other top 10. On the up side, they’ve only ever missed out on the finals once coz their neighbours really like them, especially Romania, although they’re not in the same semi final this year.

They have Aliona Moon with O Mie representin’ them this year and your one thinks she’s Eastern Europe’s answer to Lady Gaga. Her dress lights up. I actually think it’s one of the better ballads. I think this will defo be in the final but not sure it’ll make the top 10. It’s decent enough.

Tuesday, 30 April 2013

Eurovision 2013 - Malta

I feel so sorry for Malta! They want to win the Eurovision so bad and they almost have twice! They’re the most successful country never to have won with 2 second places and 2 thirds. From 1991 they had 8 top 10 finishes in a row. Since the introduction of the semi finals though they’ve not done as well and have failed to qualify for the final 4 times.

This year the song is Tomorrow by Gianluca Bezzina. I think it’s brilliant and one of their best chances in years. It’s very like Train or one of those bands. I hope they do well. I liked Malta! I was there once and had a great time. This should make the final and I’ll be surprised if it doesn’t!

Eurovision 2013 - FYR Macedonia

I think the Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia’s main purpose in this world is for people givin’ scores in the Eurovision Song Contest the chance to say The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. They’ve been takin’ part since 1998 and have never EVER been in the top 10! Their best result is 12th in 2006! They did make the final last year but didn’t for the 4 years before that.

This year the song is Pred da se razdeni by Esma and Lozano. It’s typical Balkan shite that they send to the Eurovision in that part of the world. Not one of my favourites to be honest. I just skip over it when it comes on. Bores me to tears and your man sounds like the chant ya hear from a mosque. Probably won’t make the final.

Today’s song is Because We Want To by Billie Piper

This is a great song! Billie Piper or Billie as she was known as back then came from NOWHERE in 1998 to debut at number 1 in the UK makin’ her the youngest artist ever to go straight to number 1. She was only 15 at the time.

Nowadays Billie is better known for her actin’ where she starred as Rose in Doctor Who and as the lead in Secret Diary Of A Call Girl. She went on to have 7 top 10 singles includin’ 3 number 1s. She married Chris Evans at one stage too. There were rumours of her bein’ cast in X-Men Days Of Future Past at one stage.

Eurovision 2013 - Lithuania

Right next door to yesterday’s Latvia comes Lithuania! They’re the only Baltic country not to have won the competition and have never really come close. Their best ever result was 6th with LT United and We Are The Winners. They even came last with nul points on their debut in 1994! They haven’t made it out of the semi finals 4 times although for the last 2 years they have. The country who’ve given Lithuania the most points in the competition are Ireland, mainly due to a big population of Lithuanians livin’ and workin’ here.

This years song is called Something and is by Andrius Pojavis who’s a decent lookin’ chap. The song has the sound of a Discover Lithuania advert about it. I can imagine rollin’ hills and whatever else they have in Lithuania. I’ve not been there yet. He says he’s wearin’ 2 shoes, one called love and one called pain which is just weird. The backin’ singers do NOTHIN’ for the song. MIGHT get to the final actually. Not the worst song in the pack!

Today’s song is Uptown Girl by Billy Joel

Another song of the day, another Billy song. Today it’s Uptown Girl by Billy Joel which was released in 1983. It’s about a workin’ class fella tryin’ to woo a wealthy girl. The song went to number 3 in the USA and number 1 in the UK, Ireland, Australia and loads of other places. Billy Joel really was the man at that time.

The main character in the video was played by Christine Brinkley who married Billy Joel later. The song was recorded by Westlife who had Claudia Schiffer in the video!

Eurovision 2013 - Latvia

Ah poor Latvia. They’re right down the bottom of the bookies list of Eurovision winners and the thing is, I don’t think the song is that bad at all! Granted it sounds like a group of lads in London rappin’ in the 1990s but still. Rappin’ doesn’t do too well in Eurovision. Trackshittaz came last with their song last year so poor Latvia might not do much better. I think it’s a grand song. Defo not the worst. They’re also first in their semi final though so could be a bad draw for them. The song is called Here We Go by PeR.

Latvia have been enterin’ since 2000 and have the one win with Marie N and I Wanna back in 2002. They’ve been in the top 10 only 3 times and haven’t qualified for the final since 2008 when Pirates Of The Sea came 12th! That was a great song. Last year they had Beautiful Song which kinda grew on me coz someone clearly just translated the lyrics on Google Translate into English!

Today’s song is Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus

We continue our run of songs by people called Billy with this tune by Billy Ray Cyrus who happens to be the father of Disney star Miley Cyrus. I remember watchin’ a programme about this song years ago and the thing about it was that it wasn’t a hit until they decided to put the little dance to it and then it suddenly just took off all over the world.

The song went on to start a line dancin’ craze that was huge in the 1990s and for some reason seems to still be a thing in Northern Ireland!

Friday, 26 April 2013

Eurovision 2013 - Italy

Italy vanished from the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997 for AGES only to come back in 2011. They decided they just didn’t want to do it anymore and before that, in the time from when they entered the first competition way back in 1956, they didn’t do to bad! They had 2 wins with Gigliola Cinquetti in 1964 and Toto Cutugno in 1990. They also had one of the most popular songs too with Volare/Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu which became a huge hit around the world after Dean Martin covered it.

This years song is L'essenziale by Marco Mengoni which sounds like a song from the credits of a Disney movie! I like it though. I can see it doin’ well enough and Italy’s 3rd top 10 in a row is on the cards. I think Italy are on the verge of gettin’ it very right one of these years! HIS LOCKS ARE AWFUL!!!!!!

Today’s song is Your Loving Arms by Billy-Ray Martin

I hated this song when it was out coz it was just the same thing over and over again. It was released in 1994 but didn’t catch on until 1995 when it went to number 1 in the US dance charts and number 6 in the UK. Billy-Rae was German which I didn’t know until now! She didn’t really have any other hits after this but has released over 20 singles so she’s been busy. She actually started as a cabaret singer in Berlin and she’s back doin’ that now after her earlier success. Ya kinda wonder what happens to 1 hit wonders afterwards. Someone should make a programme about that!

Thursday, 25 April 2013

Eurovision 2013 - Israel

Israel have been decent enough in Eurovision over the years with 3 wins and they’ve never finished last. This year their entrant is Moran Mazor with Rak Bishelvo. It’s very Eurovision. I really don’t see it doin’ well and your one looks like the local librarian! Sweet god!

Israel started enterin’ in 1973 and won in 1978 and 1979. Their last win was in 1998 with Diva by Dana International who became the first transexual in the competition. She famously fell on her arse the followin’ year when she was handin’ over the trophy to the winner. Since the semis were introduced they’ve failed to qualify 4 times and have finished in the top 10 2 times. They haven’t been in the final the last 2 years. Not sure if this will make it.

Today’s song is Picture Of You by Boyzone

Ah this is probably one of my favourite Boyzone songs. I know Shane Lynch well. He was me mentor in the All Ireland Talent Show. The song was the theme song for Bean - The Ultimate Disaster Movie and Rowan Atikinson appears in the video as Mr Bean. The song went to number 2 in the UK and Ireland and was a hit in other countries around the world. The Japanese loved Boyzone.

The song led to Ronan Keating winnin’ an Ivor Novello award so fair play to him for that. I’m goin’ to press play on this now and dance like Mr Bean!

Bishop & Warpath confirmed for X-Men Days Of Future Past

So the latest tweet from Bryan Singer confirms that Bishop and Warpath will be in Days Of Future Past. The video he posted shows the names of the X-Men characters although it seems to be those mainly from the original 3 movies - Wolverine, Xavier, Magneto, Storm, Colossus, Iceman, Kitty Pryde as well as the newbies Blink, Bishop and Proudstar. There’s a total of 12 seats though so looks like Rogue could be one of those?

I really can’t wait for this movie! ARGH. See the video clip here.

Eurovision 2013 - Ireland

Ah here we are now. We come to the most successful country in Eurovision history! Ireland have had more wins than anyone else with 7 and we’re also the only country to have 3 wins in a row back in the 1990s. We also had 4 wins in 5 years back then and through the Eurovision, we gave the world Riverdance! Ireland is also the home of the smallest town to ever hold the competition when it was held in Millstreet in County Cork in 1993. We’ve been enterin’ since 1965 and had our first win in 1970 with Dana and All Kinds Of Everything. We had two wins in the 1980s with Johnny Logan and What’s Another Year and Hold Me Now. We’ve had 4 second places to add to our 7 wins too! Since the semi finals were introduced only 3 acts have failed to make the final - Donna & Joe, Dustin The Turkey and Sinead Mulvey feat Black Daisy, although she was close! We’ve only ever had one last place finish with Dervish in 2007 and it’s been said that sendin’ Dustin The Turkey, to date the only puppet ever to enter the competition, was a bit of a protest against the neighbourly votin’ that affects the competition. For the last 2 years we’ve sent pop twins Jedward.

This year we’re sendin’ the hunky Ryan Dolan with his song Only Loves Survives. Ireland are only 11th with the bookies which I think is a bit low. I think we can challenge for the top 5 with this song and if he gets enough momentum when he gets to Malmo he could go all the way. I think it’s the best of all the boys so could do well for that reason.

Today’s song is Mysterious Times by Sash!

Oh how I loved this song when I was younger. I was a big Sash! fan. I have all his albums and know the words to all the songs. I used to dance around me room thinkin’ I was only the image of Tina Cousins. I’ve actually met her twice and she was lovely!

The song was a huge hit all over Europe and went into the top 10 in most countries. It hit number 2 in the UK. Sash! Have had 5 number 2 singles in the UK and a number 3 but never a number 1! Their first single Encore En Fois was number 1 in Ireland though. They never had the success in the USA groups like Cascada had either. They’ll definitely feature in Song Of The Day again! I’m off to dance around me room!

Eurovision 2013 - Iceland

Ah Iceland! They’re mad about the Eurovision and twice came close to winnin’ only to end up in second. They’ve been enterin’ since 1986 and have come last twice. They have made it out of the semi final for the last 5 years so they do have a good enough record.

This year the Icelandic song is Eg A Lif by Eythor Ingi and it sounds like something from a Dreamworks movie, ya know at a sad bit when they show a montage of someone cryin’ while someone else is somewhere else also cryin’. The video is a bit strange too and there’s a hairy chap that thinks he’s Thor in it. Overall a bit of a strange effort I feel. Nice for a Visit Iceland advert or the final of Icelandic X-Factor but not so much for the Eurovision Song Contest.

Today’s song is It’s Not Unusual by Tom Jones

This is a big change from Yesterday! It’s Not Unusual was released by Tom Jones in 1965 and was originally meant to be for Sandi Shaw who turned it down because she liked the demo version recorded by Tom and told him to release it. That was nice of her. Elton John played the keyboard on the recordin’ and Lou Reed was in charge of the musical arrangement. The song hit number 1 in the UK and number 10 in the USA becomin’ his first hit there. The song has been covered by everyone from The Supremes to Cher!

Eurovision 2013 - Hungary

This song reminds me of something that Len did on their album in the 90s. In case you’ve never heard of them, Len were a Canadian group who had a hit with Steal My Sunshine. Hungary’s Eurovision song is Kedvesem by ByeAlex who seems to be some form of pop star in that part of the world. He wouldn’t be the best to look at and although this isn’t a favourite with the bookies, I like the beat in it. I find meself tappin’ along when it comes on! I wish I know what he was sayin’!

Hungary only entered for the first time in 1994 where they did alright by finishin’ 4th. Since then they’ve only ever had one other top 10 finish. They’ve not made it out of the semi’s twice and then they do, they usually finish near the bottom.

Today’s song is Changes by Tupac

I LOVE THIS SONG! I like a lot of Tupac’s stuff but this and California Love are probably me favourites. The song was released on Tupac’s Greatest Hits a few years after he died and used lyrics from a song he recorded in 1992 called I Wonder If Heaven Got A Ghetto and uses a sample of The Way It Is by Bruce Hornsby & The Range.

The song did really well around the world but only hit 38 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was nominated for a Grammy.

Eurovision 2013 - Greece

Greece usually have good Eurovision songs but for some reason this year it’s not the case! It sounds like something a bunch of drunk people would sing at a wedding. It’s called Alcohol Is Free and is by Koza Mostra feat. Agathon Iakovidis. If Madness were from Athens this is what their songs would sound like. Probably one of the worst Greek songs EVER although lets not lie, they’re even more broke than Ireland is and hostin’ it would kill them. They might not even make it out of the semi final with this muck and they usually do! Actually, they probably will and won’t deserve to!

Greece are the most successful country in the Eurovision Song Contest since the introduction of the semi finals. Before their win in 2005 they were one of the least successful so that was a bit of a turnaround. They’ve been in the top 10 every year since 2004 EXCEPT last year. I think this could be even worse than last year!

Today’s song is Last Nite by The Strokes

Ah I like this song. The strokes are American but for some reason I always thought they were English. They just have that sound. The song came from their first album Is This It? and it hit the 20 in the UK and top 50 in Ireland. Actually now that ya look at it, it wasn’t as successful as I thought although it’s been used on loads of adverts and stuff since and NME voted it the 66th best rock song of all time which is nice of them. The Strokes have a new album out at the moment although I’ve not heard anything off it.

Eurovision 2013 - Germany

Now this is a great song. You’ll know Cascada of course from their other huge hits they’ve had all over the world. They’ve even done well enough in the USA. Their song Evacuate The Dancefloor kept Michael Jackson off number 1 in the UK the week he died. They charted around Europe as late as last year with Summer Of Love and Rhythm Of The Night so it’s a BIG deal for someone like Cascada to be in the Eurovision. The song is great and she’s amazin’ live. I think she’ll do well in the televotin’ although I’m not sure what the jurys are gonna think. I have 25 euro on her in the bookies so she better win! Glorious is the song.

Germany have had 2 wins, the first was in 1982 with Nicole and Ein Bischen Freiden and in 2010 when Lena won with Satellite. They’ve finished in the top 10 the last 3 years. They’ve had a good few 2nd and 3rd places over the years. They had burlesque superstar Dita Von Tease on stage with them in 2009 and the year before that the girl band No Angels came 23rd even though there was loads of hype around them because they’d had hits around the world.

Today’s song is Birdhouse In Your Soul by There Might Be Giants

Okay this SOOOO has to be a Song Of The Day request too coz I’ve never heard of it. I’ve only ever heard of There Might Be Giants once or twice before and don’t know any of their songs. It’s grand like. Probably not something I’d put on me Windows Media Player. Oh god there’s trivia on YouTube. It’s about a NIGHTLIGHT! SWEET JESUS!

The song is a story of a child's nightlight, told from the nightlight's point of view.

The Longines Symphonette is a hand-held pocket radio, manufactured in the 1960s. It is also a record label which specialized in releasing classic radio programs and multiple-record box sets. Linnell admits, though, "I didn't find out what the Longines Symphonette was until after the song was released," in a 2009 interview with Rolling Stone.

The song's video was directed by Adam Bernstein and filmed inside the New York County's Surrogate's Court and Hall of Records building located at 31 Chambers Street in Manhattan. "I tell people it's my house." - Linnell

Blue Canary is the title of a 1953 song by Vincent Fiorino, which has lyrics on the sadder side about loneliness and comforting but has "happy" music. Also, the 1948 song "Bluebird of Happiness" as performed by Art Mooney (which reminds that, "Though you're deep in blue, you will see a ray of light creep through") may have influenced the line about a "bluebird of friendliness".

Superman trailer

The new Superman trailer has been released. This is a reboot called The Man of Steel and features Henry Carvill as Superman and Amy Adams as Lois Lane. I’m very fond of Amy. The last Superman movie, Superman Returns, was a load of poo so at least they’ve decided to make this AND it’s in the same universe as Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies so hopefully it might lead into Justice League. That’s a movie I wouldn’t mind seein’ and if they’re lookin’ for someone to play Wonder Woman, I’m free.

Daft Punk - Get Lucky

So Daft Punk have eventually released a full version of Get Lucky, their new song featurin’ Pharrell. This is gonna be HUGE! Daft Punk have brought us such dance classics as One More Time and Around The World so their return is very much anticipated. God I’m gettin’ very posh at the moment amn’t I?

Here’s the song anyway. Put it on and get funky with yo self!

Heroes is coming back

I only got into Heroes after it was over but I watched it all and enjoyed it, although some of it was really dodgy. It ended really suddenly but now TV Line are reporting that MSN wants to bring it back for the Xbox platform. They’re talkin’ to NBC about it and will feature new stories and heroes with cameos from the original cast.

Heroes was created by Tim Kring and lasted four seasons with Hayden Panettiere, Ali Larter, Zachery Quinto among its cast. There was 77 episodes in total.

Eurovision 2013 - Georgia

Me good friend Chloe who’s a powerhouse of Eurovision knowledge has tipped this to do well. Personally I’m not so sure. It’s a bit dull. I think it’s Georgia tryin’ to do what Azerbaijan did to win but just not as well and sure it’s too close to when they won to do it. It’s alright though and I wouldn’t mind a trip to Georgia next year if they did manage to pull it off. The song is called Waterfall and is sung by Nodi Tatishvili & Sophie Gelovani. It’ll definitely make the final.

Georgia’s first Eurovision was in 2007 and they qualified for the final every year up until last year. Their best ever result was 9th in 2010 and 2011. Last year was the first time they didn’t make the final since their debut.

Today’s song is Goodbye Earl by Dixie Chicks

Okay I have an idea where this song came from on the list but it definitely wasn’t me. For those of you who are American, the Dixie Chicks wouldn’t be very well known on this side of the Atlantic. I actually couldn’t tell ya any of their songs. Except Goodbye Earl coz it’s written there ^. The video is also below!

On listenin’ to it, it’s actually not a bad song. It’s very country. The girls in the band are very country too. Oh it’s a little story too. I like this!

Today’s song is Until The Time Is Through by Five

Five have come back into the limelight recently after they appeared on The Big Reunion on TV. This is one of their slower songs Until The Time Is Through. This is from 1998 which is a little bit scary coz I feel really old. There’s actually only 4 of them in the band at the moment coz one of them left. I don’t know which one coz I didn’t watch it. This is actually far from one of their best songs now that I listen to it but sure the video is nice and I would have given Scott and probably Abs one back in the day.

Eurovision 2013 - France

There’s a severe case of tryin’ too hard off France in Eurovision the last few years. Of course they always sing in French so that might go against them a bit. The majority of winners in the last few 20 years have been in English with the odd exception. They were favourites in 2011 even but then finished 15th. They do have 5 wins to their name though, the last one bein’ in 1977! They’ve only finished in the top 10 once in the last 10 years but they’re automatically guaranteed a spot in the final as part of the big 5.

I actually think this song is alright. It’s very French Amy Winehouse. Again, had it been in English I think it’d do a lot better. It kinda sounds like something from a Renault ad. Could be a decent enough showin’ for them, although then again, probably not!

Eurovision 2013 - Finland

This song is startin’ to grow on me! Finland will be represented this year by Krista Siegfrids with Marry Me and it’s a kinda poppy little tune that the likes of Miley Cyrus or Demi Levato would sing. I think she might do well enough with it. It does sound like she’s sayin’ f*ck you and not for you but that just adds to it.

Up until their win in 2006 with Lordi and Hard Rock Hallelujah, Finland were probably the worst country takin’ part in Eurovision with a grand total of 8 last places, 3 of which were nul points. Their win in 2006 was probably more of an exception to the rule rather than anything else seein’ as it’s the only time they’ve EVER finished in the top five and they’ve been enterin’ since the 1970s. Their record hasn’t been much better lately sadly.

Today’s song is Doctor Beat by Gloria Estefan

Gloria Estefan was HUGE in the 80s with her Miami Sound Machine and latin hits. This was their first English language song after they’d had loads in Spanish. It was big around Europe although didn’t do as well in America. The video is very strange with Gloria pretendin’ to jump off a buildin’ and some strange chap dressed up as Doctor Beat. Poor Gloria broke her back later but made a full recovery thank god.

Eurovision 2013 - Estonia

I really don’t know what to say about Estonia. Birgit is representin’ them with Et Uus Saaks Alguse which sounds like something you’d hear some one singin’ down the local country club while people are ignorin’ her and tryin’ to pretend she isn’t there. There’s much better slow songs than this. I can’t see it makin’ the final but sure she might surprise me.

Of course Estonia have the one win from back in 2001 when Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL won with Everybody. It’s probably one of the most forgettable winners EVER. Since the introduction of the semi finals they’ve qualified 3 times. Their song 2 years ago, Rockefeller Street, was one of my favourite Eurovision songs ever.

Today’s song is When The Going Gets Tough by Billy Ocean

Ah I love Billy Ocean. There’s just something really nice about him. He seems like a lovely man. When The Going Gets Tough is actually originally his song and not Boyzone’s although they did a great version of it. I always like Boyzone and I swear it has nothing to do with Shane Lynch bein’ my mentor on The All Ireland Talent Show. Well a little bit.

I didn’t actually realise Billy was British until I read it there now. The video is great. It has Kathleen Turner, Danny DeVito and Michael Douglas as backin’ singers.

Eurovision 2013 - Denmark

This is the hot favourite for this year! Denmark are 2 to 1 in most of the bookies. Ever since Emmelie De Forest won the national final with Only Teardrops she’s been top of the pack. It’s got a very Celtic feel about it and she’s a good singer and the song is the type of thing that could win Eurovision. If it doesn’t win, it will definitely challenge. It’s no Euphoria though so you’d never know and the favourite in 2011 finished 15th! I’ve only gotten into the Eurovision bettin’ the last few years actually.

Denmark’s first win came back in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann singing Dansevise. They won again in 2000 with Fly On The Wings Of Love by the Olsen Brothers. The Danes LOVE the Eurovision even though they took a 12 year break from 1966 to 1978. Since the introduction of the semi finals they’ve only failed to qualify twice. Strangely enough, the one time they finished last the song was also favourite to win the competition, just like they are this time!

Today’s song is Baby Jane by Rod Stewart

My mother LOVES Rod Stewart although I can’t see why. There’s nothin’ attractive about him at all. He wouldn’t be a pin up in anyway and his hair is AWFUL! He does have some great tunes though that hold their own even to this day. Baby Jane is one of them. The song was a UK number 1 back in the day and was a top 20 in the US and Australia. This sounds like it should be in some 80s advert with glam girls wearin’ LOTS of blusher and big hair! I LIKE IT!

Disneyland rides shut for health and safety violations

Oh my! The Disney Blog has said that 3 of it’s rides, Space Mountain, The Matterhorn Bobsleds, and Soarin’ Over California" have been shut by The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health. That’s a long name. The found 7 violations on Space Mountain alone. Big Thunder Mountain is also out of service until Autumn due to upgrades so that means 4 rollercoasters are shut in the park! OUCH!

The blog says that the violations are about employee safety and not guests and that’s why they’ve been shut!

PSY releases video for Gentlemen

I didn’t really get the whole Gangnam Style thing and this is the same for me sadly. WHAT IN THE NAME OF GOD HAS HAPPENED TO MUSIC?? This strange little Korean man is the biggest thing on YouTube.

In the video, PSY does some strange dance routines with a group of women just like in Gangnam Style. He then pulls loads of pranks on women, some of which are borderline abuse. No I hate this crap like I did the last one. I wish he’d just go away with his annoyin’ songs.

Eurovision 2013 - Cyprus

Ah Cyprus! They try very hard. Not as hard as Malta mind you but not far behind. The Greeks always give them 12 points, although why wouldn’t they. They’re not so popular with their other neighbour Turkey.

This year they’ve gone for Despina Olimpiou with An Me Thimasai and it’s one of those slow ballads you do always see in Eurovision but never do very well. It’d be a mid pack effort if anything. It’s a pity coz the song isn’t that bad although poor Despina isn’t the best lookin’ girl in the group. She’d be an ugly version of Sharon Corr if anything. They might, if they’re lucky, get to to the final but we’ll see.

Cyprus have been enterin’ since 1981 and their best ever result was 5th 3 times in 1982, 1997 and 2004. Their song last year, La La Love, is one of me favourite Eurovision songs EVER and was a surprise hit after the competition when it didn’t second best to Euphoria in the charts around Europe, even chartin’ here in Ireland and in the UK!

Today’s song is Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder) by Maxwell

I don’t actually know how this made it on to the Song Of The Day list coz I’ve actually never heard of Maxwell or Ascension so I’m guessin’ when I put it together all those years ago someone requested it and not here it finds itself. That happens sometimes!

There’s not really much about it on Wikipedia only that it reached number 28 in the UK and number 36 in the USA. It sounds like the type of thing you’d get down and dirty with in the bedroom!

Eurovision 2013 - Croatia

Croatia’s song for this years Eurovision is Mižerja by Klapa s Mora and it’s probably not their finest moment. It sounds like the theme tune to a cheap daytime soap opera and not even a good one. It’s these 6 lads in suits singin’ a strange song. The whole thing is all a bit weird if ya ask me. I don’t think they stand a chance but sure ya know the former Yugoslavs, they love their neighbours.

Croatia first entered in 1993 WAY back when the competition was held in Ireland. The final was actually held in Zagreb in 1990 but that’s coz Yugoslavia won the year before and they were all still friends back then until they decided that they might do better if they broke apart so they could all vote for each other, a tradition which has worked out well for them, well more so Serbia than Croatia! They haven’t qualified for a final since 2009. Their best place ever in the final was 4th in 1999!

Today’s song is Midnight Train To Georgia by Gladys Knight

We only had Gladys Knight last week and here she is back already with Midnight Train To Georgia. She’s talkin’ about Georgia in the USA and not Georgia that sends strange songs to the Eurovision Song Contest. It’s where Atlanta is. I think that’s where Gladys herself is from. The song was a number 1 in 1973 which was a really long time ago. That’s like 40 years ago now! It sounds like it should be in a movie with Samuel L Jackson in it.

Eurovision 2013 - Bulgaria

I know I talked about how bad Belgium were yesterday but then we come to Bulgaria!! This year they’ll be represented by Elita & Stoyan with Samo Shampioni. God it’s actually AWFUL! They represented Bulgaria in 2007 comin’ 5th and now here they are with this mess. God what is the story with this? It’s all about the drums isn’t it? She can’t sing a note god love her! If they qualify I’ll eat me hat. I’ll buy a hat and then I’ll eat it.

Bulgaria first took part in 2005 and have been a bit lacklustre ever since. They nearly qualified twice other than the time they actually did qualify and last year they only lost out on the final because of a tie. Ya know one day they’re gonna send a great song and do well. It’s not this year.

Today’s song is Patricia The Stripper by Chris De Burgh

Ah this is a great song. It’s about a girl who gets arrested for bein’ a stripper. See that’s why it’s called Patricia The Stripper. Chris De Burgh has had some great tunes in his time, whether it be Lady In Red, Spanish Train or of course the strangest Christmas song of all time, A Spaceman Came Travelling. He was actually born in Argentina but he’s from County Wexford and of course his daughter Rosanna Davidson (not De Burgh) won the Miss World at some stage. She’s famous for gettin’ into rows with Ryanair and that.

This is a great song and one to sing along to on a drunken night out so grab a few bottles and turn it up! AND WITH A SWING OF HER HIPS…

One Direction train with Newcastle United

Boyband and young hunks One Direction joined a trainin’ session with football team Newcastle United earlier this week, although for some reason Zayn Malik decided not to bother. Harry Styles posed for a picture with Danny Simpson who’s goin’ out with Tulisa. Niall Horan posed with Ryan Taylor while Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson also made an appearance. I’m goin’ to be honest and say the main purpose of this post was to show you a pervy picture of Harry! Enjoy!

Adele tops young rich list

Adele tops the latest Young Music Rich List with a total of £30 million. Fair play to her. Who knew that writin’ about how miserable ya are could make ya that much money. One Direction earned £5 million each so they’re flyin’ up the list. Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson have all had a quick rise to the top and have screamin’ girls runnin’ after them everywhere.

The overall list is topped by Paul McCartney with Andrew Lloyd Webber second.

Dubai police add a Lamborghini to their fleet

Sweet holy god! The police in Dubai have just bought a Lamborghini worth €400,000 for their fleet! That’s a LOT of money for a police car, although wouldn’t ya love to rob that in Grand Theft Auto.

The car has been painted green and white like the other cars in the force but it will be used mainly in tourist areas to show how classy Dubai is. I would imagine they don’t need a police car to do that. The Lamborghini Aventador is just one part of the new fleet coz they’ve added American Camaros too which ya might know as Bumblebee from Transformers! They’ve got mad money in the Gulf. They should give me some!

Rush trailer

I think this is goin’ to be good. The trailer for Ron Howard’s new film Rush has just been released. It’s about the 1976 formula 1 season and the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda.

Chris Hemsworth plays the part of James Hunt and Daniel Brühl plays Niki Lauda. It’ll be out in the autumn. I’m lookin’ forward to it. Believe it or not, I’m a big formula 1 fan. Had I the money when I was younger I’d probably be racin’ against Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button this weekend!

Today’s song is Scatman by Scatman John

Oh good god! This is another of those strange songs that sticks in your head for ages! Scatman John and his Scatman came along in 1994 and everyone was goin’ around thinkin’ it’d be gas to go bebababadabo in your face. It wasn’t. I punched people and I was young enough then.

Scatman John was actually an American who had a stutter and started learnin’ scat to help him. That’s what Wikipedia says. I always thought scat was people who liked gettin’ pooed on. Did I make that up?

Scatman John went on to make 3 albums before sadly dyin’ in 1999.

Eurovision 2013 - Belgium

Oh Belgium. They seem to always have shite Eurovision songs and this year is no different. Roberto Bellarosa is their entry this year with the song Love Kills. I think their problem is that they always seem to be very forgettable and this is the same. Actually, I’ll tell ya just how borin’ this song is. I got halfway through, got distracted by something else and turned it off and forgot about writin’ this blog post for AGES!

They’ve only ever been out of the semi final twice since it was introduced and have won once in 1986 when Sandra Kim sang J'aime La Vie. They did finish second in 2003 although that was a rarity for them. Sadly I don’t think Belgium are gonna do much better this time out!

Eurovision 2013 - Belarus

Belarus is a strange place, or at least I imagine it is. I’ve never been although ya know me, one day I will! Their Eurovision song this year is Solayoh by Alyona Lanskaya. She is actually singin’ in English even though it doesn’t really sound like it. They used the trusted formula of pretty girl and eastern soundin’ song that worked so well when Greece, Ukraine and Turkey won although that was a while ago and things have moved on. Belarus clearly hasn’t. The dancers are nice and her hair is very long. I would go as far as sayin’ this one might do well enough. Could be their second best finish ever.

Belarus first entered in 2004 and have always sung in English. In that time they’ve only ever been in the final twice with their best result bein’ 6th in 2007 with Work Your Magic which I remember likin’ a lot at the time. The chap was lovely as well.

Today’s song is Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell

Ah I love this song. I think it was on a Sister Act soundtrack I had one time. Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell came together WAY back in 1967 to record Ain’t No Mountain High Enough on Motown and it became a big hit. Dusty Springfield actually wanted to sing it first but the writers said no coz they wanted to get into the Detroit market and the Motown label!

Dianna Ross had her first Number 1 with the song in 1970 and it’s been covered loads of times. Actually Wikipedia says it was done by Whoopi Goldberg and Lauren Hill in Sister Act 2 which I knew! See I do pay attention.

Anyway, here’s the original!

Eurovision 2013 - Azerbaijan

Believe it or not, Azerbaijan is in fact a real country and not even somewhere that’s made up and I know for a fact because that’s where last years Eurovision was on. They won the year before with the song Running Scared by El & Nikki which I liked.

This year their song is called Hold Me and will be sung by Farid Mammadov who sounds like something that’d get ya drunk if you ever went to Russia. He’s one of these Azerbaijani lookin’ chaps with eyebrows that need a trim. Actually he looks like he should be on some soap opera, actually I wonder if he was. From the video it looks like they pick it from some form of Azerbaijan Has Talent competition. It’s a bit drab I think. Not winnin’ material. They should know better. The crowd in the audience are HILARIOUS! They look like they don’t even want to be there. Oh I just Googled it and it’s called Milli Seçim Turu. There’s like 8 bleedin’ heats!! Sweet god!

Since they first joined the competition in 2008, they’ve never failed to get out of the semi. They finished 8th the first year and then since then they’ve never been out of the top 5!! That’s some record! Their win in 2011 came with only 3 12 point scores which was the same amount that Ireland got (Jedward - Lipstick).

Anyway, have a listen to Farid. I’m predictin’ it’ll be their worst finish ever!

Today’s song is Witch Doctor by Cartoons

This is one of those strange novelty songs that comes around every now and again and everyone just goes wild for. Cartoons came along with their Witch Doctor in 1998 and stormed into the charts. It was one of those songs that’d get stuck in your head for days which sadly I think has just happened to me! RAGIN! They were from Denmark and did old rockabilly hits in a europop style. Now that I think about it, the whole thing was very odd, especially the strange plastic wigs they used to wear. I don’t know what the story was with that at all but it was very strange. They went by the names Toonie, Sponge, Shooter, Buzz, Puddy, and Boop which is very similar to a family that used to live near us. They weren’t even a one hit wonder because their second song Doodah, which is not something a dog does that ends up on your shoe, was also a top 10 hit!

This video is actually very strange!

Today’s song is Drops Of Jupiter by Train

Ah this is a great song. For some reason it made it into Song Of The Day even though the songs are actually meant to be 80s songs unless there’s some kinda strange cosmic force makin’ the change. Today must be one of those days. I’m feelin’ very cosmic.

Train have had a few great songs that are good to listen to on the radio. Hey Soul Sister was one and then there was that other one. Drops Of Jupiter is another good one. I like Train, not the actually thing that goes on tracks although I like them too.

Actually I just found out this is from 1998!

Eurovision 2013 - Armenia

Ah Armenia. Fair play to them, they’ve given the Eurovision a good go since they first entered and they wouldn’t even be that friendly with their neighbours. They took a year off last year and all coz they don’t like Azerbaijan. This years song is Lonely Planet by Dorians which to me sounds like they’re advertisin’ a travel guide book. They’ve had better entries if I’m to be honest. They look like a band you’d see down the local pub and he doesn’t sound like he’s singin’ in English for at least half the song even though he actually is. It’s tryin’ to be rocky when it just isn’t.

Armenia’s best ever result was 4th in 2008 with the song Qele Qele by Sirusho. They were in the top 10 for the first 5 years they were in the contest although in 2011 they didn’t qualify for the final for the first time. They’re back this year with that crap Lonely Planet song after their break last year. I think it might be about the environment. Me arse.

ABC’s S.H.I.E.L.D is now called Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D

ABC TV who is owned by Disney which owns Marvel has updated on their new TV show S.H.I.E.L.D or as its called now, Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. The programme will be be on TV later in the year and takes place in the same universe as the Avengers movies.

Here’s the synopsis from Marvel TV. Can’t wait for this!

Joss Whedon shows us not all heroes are super with "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Fresh from his role in the summer’s box office smash, Marvel's The Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They’ll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Prepare for an epic adventure that showcases the hope and wonder of the human spirit. This is a world of Super Heroes, aliens and the unusual – of action, spectacle and world spanning stories. The show will speak to the human condition through the lens of our very human, non-powered S.H.I.E.L.D agents – that together we are greater than we are apart, and that we can make a difference in the world.
Executive Produced and co-written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen ("Dollhouse," "Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog"), Jeffrey Bell ("Angel," "Alias") and Jeph Loeb ("Smallville," "Lost," "Heroes") comes Marvel’s first live-action TV series, "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Eurovision 2013 - Austria

Austria’s song for Eurovision 2013 is Shine by Natália Kelly. She sounds very Irish, the name like, not the singin’. They’re first in semi-final 1 so god love them, they’re gonna have some struggle to do anything from there and not only that, the song wouldn’t be the best. Fair play to Natalia though, she’s a good lookin’ girl.

Austria have won the Eurovision only once, way back in 1966 with the song Merci Cherie by Udo Jurgens. I don’t know it. They’ve come last 9 times and have only gotten into the final twice since the semi finals were introduced. They even pulled out for 3 years in 2008. The last time they were in the top 5 was in 1989!! Last year they entered the rap group Trackshittaz with the song Woki Mit Dem Popi and that came last in the semi final. Think if Jersey Shore was from Austria and you’d be on the right track, although personally, I loved it!

Anyway, I have a feelin’ poor Natalia won’t be doin’ much better this year. Have a listen.

Today’s song is I Put A Spell On You by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins

I don’t know who Screaming Jay Hawkins is but what a strange name. I Put A Spell On You is the type of song ya do hear all the time around Halloween and granted it’s only April but I’m bein’ prepared. Actually it was just on a list that I’ve been usin’ from a secret source for Song Of The Day all these years. One day I’ll reveal where the list came from. It’s one of the great modern mysteries of the modern age, that and how does Jennifer Anniston get her hair like that.

There’s been loads of different versions of this song. The one from Hocus Pocus was good and then Sonique had one too. Do ya remember Sonique? She was great.

Eurovision 2013 - Albania

I’ve decided to bring ya a special day by day blow of Eurovision with a song a day, not Song OF The Day which won’t be changin’ but a different song from the Eurovision Song Contest which will be held in Malmo in Sweden this year.

Up first is Albania with Identitet by Adrian Lulgjuraj & Bledar Sejko who I’m guessin’ must be Albanians. The song is in Albanian so they must be.

Albanian’s first Eurovision was only in 2004 which is late enough compared to the other countries in the area. They pick their songs from something called Festivali i Këngës which I imagine might be like the X-Factor in Albania. I’ve never been there. They’ve only missed out on the final 3 times since then and last year managed 5th with that strange lookin’ girl with the weird song.

I wouldn’t be gone on this years song now meself. It’s kinda just the same thing over and over again and the fellas actually think they’re Albania’s answer to U2. It seems to be a band so I have no idea which ones are Adrian and Bledar. There’s nothin’ like a bit of Eastern European rock at the Eurovision.

X-Factor UK goes back to basics

Well this was bound to happen with all the tumblin’ ratin’s last year. It’s been confirmed that the singing competition will return to its original format with singers having to audition acappella for the judges in a small room, rather than in the arenas.

Simon Cowell has been adamant that changes were needed coz of the amount of viewers that were switchin’ the show off, meself included. A source said - "We can confirm the audition rooms will be returning to The X Factor as one of a number of exciting changes. Fans wanted changes this year - and we're giving them what they want. The acappella auditions were classic X Factor and really gave the judges an insight into whether acts were any good. It also better showcased some of the weird and wacky people we get, whose performances got lost in the arena auditions. The plan is to have the best of both worlds."

The old crap acts were funnier in the audition room so I hold out some hope it might be better this year.

Halle Berry is pregnant

Stayin’ with some news of X-Men Days Of Future Past and one of it’s leadin; ladies, it has been confirmed that actress Halle Berry is expecting her second child later this year, the first child with fiancé Olivier Martinez. She already has a five year old daughter, Nahla, from when she was in a relationship with model Gabriel Aubry.

Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez got engaged in 2012 and she’s just about to start shootin’ X-Men Days Of Future Past which will be released in 2014. I hope they get all her scenes done before the poor girl starts to show. I wonder if they need a body double?

First look at Beast in new X-Men movie

Woo! I can’t wait for X-Men Days Of Future Past. It starts shootin’ next week in Montreal and will be out in 2014 but the director Bryan Singer has been tweetin’ little sneak peeks every now and again. The latest is a picture of Nicholas Hoult as a slightly older Beast than he was in First Class.

Bryan Singer tweeted - "Many a monster wears the form of a man; it is better of the two to have the heart of a man & the form of a monster." which is from the original Beauty & The Beast book I’m told.

X-Men Days Of Future Past will also star Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing and Boo Boo Stewart.

Today’s song is Rock Lobster by The B52s

I don’t really know why this is Song Of The Day coz I don’t actually like The B52s and I don’t like Rock Lobster but it was chosen by someone else and so can get it’s turn in the sun because I’m too bored to actually go pick a different song. The B52s did Love Shack and the song from the Flintstones movie too although I don’t think they’ve been seen around much other than that. I’m sure they have fans out there who have their albums and who go around shoutin’ stuff like BANG BANG ON THE DOOR BABY and fair play to them. Not my cup of tea but go ahead and knock yourself out. Actually that’d be hilarious! You should so do that!

Big Brovaz to return for Big Reunion 2?

The group Big Brovaz are the latest rumoured to be returnin’ for the next season of ITV’s The Big Reunion and that excites me a lot coz I was a big fan of theirs. They had hits such as NuFlow, OK, Favourite Things and Baby Boy but they were dropped by their record label when one of the members was caught smokin’ marijuana. That’s a posh word for hash. Anyway, the other groups so far that have been mentioned are S Club 7 and Hear’Say.  I think Steps started this off with their TV show. I think they should just do each one individually instead of havin’ loads goin’ on all at the same time. It gets very confussin’!

Amanda Bynes has an eating disorder

I feel sorry for Amanda Bynes. She’s very quickly turnin’ into the new Lindsay Lohan. I’ve been watchin’ her on Twitter the last few weeks wonderin’ what in the name of god is goin’ on. It’s just madness with the girl at this stage. Don’t even ask me what’s happenin’ to her. One minute she’s bein’ amazin’ in Hairspray and the next she’s goin’ off the wall. I don’t know what happens to these people at all.

She’s produced some Twitter jems like -

"I'm suing certain blogs and magazines saying I have a mental illness!"

"They take pictures anytime I've gained weight then write a fake story!"

"I have an eating disorder so I have a hard time staying thin."

"They write a news article about every tweet I write and I hate the pictures they choose. They repeat what I tweet then add a bad photo... Only use photos from my twitter when writing an article about me."

"I don't read articles written about me unless I give an interview for a magazine. They're fake! Don't trust what u read on sites!"

Today’s song is The Devil Went Down To Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band

I just realised that there’s been some Song Of The Day problems and we missed a day. I’m very upset about it but sadly was nothing I could do! I won’t let it happen again. So today’s song is The Devil Went Down To Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band which ya might know if you’ve ever seen the movie Coyote Ugly. It’s the one when they all get up and dance on the bar. I’ve tried to learn the dance but they don’t show enough of it.

I don’t actually know what else The Charlie Daniels Band did or who they were? What’s with the name like? I like it though! Put it on and get up on your table and dance.

Today’s song is The Monster Mash by Bobby Pickett

This is a great song. Ya usually only hear The Monster Mash around Halloween but I thought seein’ as I was feelin’ a bit spooky today we could have it as our song, and spooky isn’t actually another word for hungover coz I’m not. I think this song is from the 60s and I couldn’t find a music video for it coz they didn’t really do music videos back then. I don’t know what else this Bobby Pickett chap did other than this either. His band were called the Crypt-kickers too which is a bit odd. Anyway, instead of a video, here’s the song done with Lego!

Today’s song is Baby Don’t Change Your Mind by Gladys Knight & The Pips

I think that’s probably the longest blog post title I’ve ever written! Today’s song is a classic from 1977 by Gladys Knight & The Pips. This wasn’t actually on the Song Of The Day list but I heard it on Reeling In The Years yesterday and thought to meself “I like this” and so I decided it was today’s song. I know it’s half 10 at night too but I’m very behind with things lately and I’m plannin’ to catch up. If anyone knows where I can find a PA I’d be most happy. They don’t do them in Argos and I got strange looks when I asked!

Anyway, here’s the song.

Today’s song is Everybody Wants To Rule The World by Tears For Fears

This song is always one of those ones ya hear on the radio and think to yourself oh I like this but it wasn’t until McDonalds used it on an ad last year for the Olympics that I really started payin’ attention! That happens me a lot with 80s songs. There are songs I listen to on me 80s playlist a bit but don’t pay much attention and then I hear them somewhere else and go “JESUS I LOVE THIS” and then it become one of “my songs.”

Tears For Fears actually had a few classics bein’ honest and this is one of their best. Everybody Wants To Rule The World is not about some weirdo in some mad country I can hardly replace startin’ a war. There’s been loads of cover versions includin’ when Blayne did it in Glee but this is still the best. Throw it on and sing along!

The IFTAs

My first ever red carpet for Beat 102 103 was at the Irish Film And Television Awards and it was lots of fun. I got to meet loads of celebrities like the lads from Moone Boy and Jack Reynor who’s goin’ to be in Transformers. I was a little bit scared interviewin’ people for the radio. I sent this podcast to your man from Moone Boy and Jack Reynor on Twitter but neither of them wrote back! It’s a pity coz they were rides. Actually the chap from Moone Boy wasn’t be he was really funny. I plan to do a lot more red carpets now I have me first one out of the way. I need a whole new wardrobe though for stuff like this. I need a sugar daddy!

Today’s song is Bump In The Night by AllStars

Ah I love this song. AllStars only had 2 songs which was this and a cover of The Land Of Make Believe but I wish they’d had more. They were one of these happy boy-girl groups that kinda came about after Steps but were never as successful. I liked this song. I do it on the show every Halloween.

The video is hard to come by actually. I remember coz we were lookin’ for it for something and couldn’t find it. I don’t know what happened to the people in the band after they broke up. I hope it was something good. They look like nice people.

Oh it was in the Scooby Doo movie too!!

Worst Valentines Present

I know Valentines Day was ages ago but still so was this podcast and it doesn’t really matter coz this is my blog and I can write what I want unless someone sues me. So I decided for the Ryde Report on Valentines Day to ask people what the worst present they ever got was. Some of the stuff that people said was perverse and not something I could put on a breakfast show on mainstream radio! I mean where do half of these perverts come from and why do they seem to follow me around.

Anyway have a listen to what the semi-normal people had to say.

Today’s song is And I’m Telling You by Jennifer Hudson

I know it wasn’t Jennifer Hudson who released this song first but I like her version of it. Poor Jennifer. She finished like 6th or something in American Idol and then suddenly became a big movie star winnin’ an oscar for Dreamgirls and then some lunatic goes and kills half her family. God love her. Some nut job that was married to her sister killed her mother, brother and nephew and fair play to Jen, she came out stronger after it. She played Winnie Mandela in a movie which I didn't see. I like her in a movie actually. She was good in that Secret Life Of Bees film. I saw it on a plane one time. Alicia Keys was in it too.

Anyway, here’s our Jen outshinin’ Beyonce in Dreamgirls!

Busy Busy Busy

Yes I have returned from Spain in case you were wonderin’ where I was! Had a few adventures along the way that I’ll talk about some time in the next few days! The main reason I haven’t been bloggin’ is that I had to buy a new computer coz when I came home, me hard drive was fried. Crap buzz but ah well! I’m back in the game. I said IN the game, not ON the game!
